Tip 1: Start with Gentle Dusting

The best way to start your deep cleaning is with gentle dusting. We recommend regular, light dusting to maintain a like-new appearance. The best thing to use for dusting is a soft microfiber cloth. Do not use magnetic cleaners such as a dusting mitt on light-dimming fabrics, which will damage the light-dimming backing.

Tip 2: Utilize Your Vacuum

One of the easiest ways to keep your blinds dust-free is by using your vacuum cleaner. We recommend utilizing the brush attachment on a gentle suction setting. Most Hunter Douglas products can be vacuumed using a vertical stroke. However, we do not recommend using a vacuum or brush attachment with our Luminette® Sheer Panels.

For deeper cleaning, consider using a can of compressed air or a hair dryer on the coolest setting to blow dust off of hard-to-reach areas.

Tip 3: Test a Small Area First

If part of your deep cleaning is going to involve spot cleaning, it's immensely important to test a small area first. Every window treatment will require different care; when your window treatments are installed, be sure to keep and refer to the manufacturer's care instructions.

Generally speaking, due to the nature of Hunter Douglas products and their dust- and dirt-resistant properties, using something as simple as water and a soft cloth can often get the job done. We recommend that if soap is needed, use a mild detergent. If you buy specialty cleaners, check the care manual and always test a small spot to ensure you don't damage the material.

Tip 4: Use a Gentle Hand

Above all else, you should use a gentle hand when cleaning your window treatments. Even for deep cleans, we recommend using cleaners at their gentlest setting.

Tip 5: Maintain Regular Maintenance

The easiest way to maintain gorgeous window treatments that look brand new is by maintaining them regularly. We recommend gentle dusting often to avoid messier deep cleans in the long run.
